Services
LEAN MASS
- Comprehensive Muscle Assessment: A DEXA scan provides an accurate breakdown of your lean mass distribution across different regions of the body, allowing you to identify muscle imbalances or areas needing targeted development for improved performance.
- Enhanced Training Precision: By understanding your lean mass baseline, you can set specific, measurable training goals and adjust your workout plan to optimize strength gains and overall athletic performance.
- Progress Tracking and Motivation: Regular DEXA scans allow you to monitor increases in lean mass over time, providing tangible evidence of your progress, which can serve as a powerful motivator to stay committed to your training program.
- Injury Prevention and Recovery: Identifying asymmetries or declines in lean mass can help prevent overuse injuries and guide rehabilitation strategies, ensuring a safer and more effective path to peak performance.
ADIPOSE TISSUE
- Precise Fat Distribution Analysis: A DEXA scan provides detailed insights into where fat is stored in your body, distinguishing between visceral fat (around organs) and subcutaneous fat (under the skin), offering a more comprehensive picture of your health.
- Early Risk Detection: By measuring visceral fat, which is linked to conditions like heart disease and diabetes, a DEXA scan helps identify potential health risks early, enabling proactive management.
- Accurate Progress Tracking: Unlike scales or BMI, which provide generalized data, DEXA scans allow for precise monitoring of fat loss or redistribution, ensuring your efforts are effectively targeting problem areas.
- Personalized Health Strategies: The detailed breakdown from a DEXA scan supports tailored diet, fitness, and lifestyle interventions, helping you achieve specific health and wellness goals more efficiently.
BONE DENSITY
- Baseline Bone Health Monitoring: A DEXA scan provides precise measurements of your bone density, helping athletes establish a baseline to monitor the impact of their training on skeletal strength over time.
- Injury Risk Reduction: By identifying areas of low bone density or early signs of bone loss, a DEXA scan helps athletes take proactive steps to reduce the risk of stress fractures or other bone-related injuries during high-impact training.
- Tailored Nutrition and Training: Insights from a DEXA scan can inform dietary adjustments, such as increasing calcium and vitamin D intake, and training modifications to support bone health and strength.
- Long-Term Performance Sustainability: Tracking bone density ensures that athletes maintain a strong skeletal foundation, enabling them to perform at their best while reducing the likelihood of bone-related issues that could hinder their training and competition longevity.
BENCHMARKING & PROGRESS TRACKING
- Establish a Clear Starting Point: A DEXA scan provides a detailed baseline of your body composition, including lean mass, fat mass, and bone density, giving you a precise benchmark to measure your progress against.
- Monitor Progress with Precision: Unlike traditional metrics like weight or BMI, DEXA scans track specific changes in muscle, fat, and bone over time, offering an accurate and reliable way to evaluate your improvements.
- Evaluate Training Effectiveness: By comparing your DEXA results over time, you can assess whether your training program is delivering the desired results and make data-driven adjustments to optimize performance.
- Track Long-Term Performance Trends: Regular scans allow you to identify patterns in your body composition changes, ensuring your progress aligns with your goals and supporting sustainable improvements in strength, endurance, and overall fitness.
What To Expect
The Appointment
Time & Location
The DEXA Scan process takes about 15 minutes and is located on the 2nd floor of Bracey Performance at 833 W Chicago Ave. Enter through the main doors in the parking lot off Green Street and a team member will direct you to the right place. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your appointment time to complete paperwork.

It is up to you how you want to scan. We recomend drinking and eating normally as you would before any scan so your scans are consistent. Whatever you do for you first scan you should plan to do the same for subsequent scans. So if you do you first scan fasted, make sure you are fasted with similar hydration levels for follow up scans to produce the most relevant data.
What Should I Wear?
Wear comfortable athletic clothes without any metal buttons or zippers. You will be asked to remove any metal before preforming your scan. We have private bathrooms where you can change when you arrive if needed.
The Report
Body Composition Breakdown
A detailed analysis of your body, including percentages and total amounts of lean mass (muscle), fat mass, and bone mineral content.
Regional Data
Insights into the distribution of muscle and fat across different body regions (arms, legs, trunk, etc.), helping you identify imbalances or areas for targeted improvement.
Visceral Fat Measurement
A precise measure of the fat stored around your organs, which is critical for understanding health risks and tailoring your fitness or nutrition plan.
Bone Density Assessment
An evaluation of your bone health, showing your bone mineral density (BMD), which is essential for reducing injury risk and supporting long-term performance.
Progress Tracking
If you’ve had previous scans, the report will compare data over time, allowing you to monitor changes in muscle growth, fat loss, or bone density improvements.
